A CAMPAIGN has been launched to save local post offices after the government announced 2,500 are to be axed nationwide within the next three years.

Post offices recorded a loss of £4million a week during 2006, twice as much as in the previous year.
In order to halt the slide and encourage more people to use the network the government has come up with a five-year investment package of £1.7bn and will carry out local consultations on restructuring.
However, local MP Michael Gove and Surrey Heath borough councillor Vivienne Chapman do not support the proposals and have started a borough-wide campaign to save post offices, as well as support the people who depend on them.
Councillors have handed petition forms to all of the post offices in Surrey Heath to get as many people as possible to sign.
